The Cybersecurity Professional Certificate is a focused programme that combines three courses: Network Security, Web Security, and Real World Cryptography. To earn the Professional Certificate, learners must complete all three courses.
Each course is self-contained yet complementary, allowing professionals, educators, and advanced students to tailor their learning journey while working toward a rigorous, IIT Bombay-certified credential.
Real World Cryptography is an online, hands-on 14-week course offered by IIT Bombay through TrustEdge. The course focuses on modern cryptographic techniques, including encryption, hashing, digital signatures, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and TLS, with an emphasis on how these technologies protect real-world secure systems.

The Network Security course will prepare participants to secure modern network environments against evolving cyber threats by emphasizing applied learning through weekly lab-based exercises that reinforce concepts through hands-on practice. Participants will gain a strong foundation in network fundamentals, explore attacks across the protocol stack, and learn effective defense strategies. The course also covers modern, secure network protocols and practical methods for hardening organisational networks using widely used open-source tools. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, configure secure network protocols, and respond confidently to network security incidents.

The Web Security course will equip participants with the essential skills to secure web applications in an increasingly connected world. With twice as many lab hours as theory, this very hands-on course offers an in-depth exploration of how the web functions, the key principles of web security, common web application attacks, and effective defense strategies. Participants will gain practical, real-world insights into safeguarding web applications through actionable exercises.

Prof. Kameswari Chebrolu, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, is the course instructor. She has conducted numerous teacher-training workshops, impacting over 10,000 educators in specialized Computer Science subjects and the utilization of educational technology tools. Currently, she holds the prestigious Prof. D.M. Dhamdhere Chair for Excellence in Teaching Methods. Prof. Chebrolu’s commitment to excellence has been recognized through awards such as the IITB Excellence in Teaching Award at the departmental level in 2022 and the institute level in 2010.
Currently the Real World Cryptography course is open for applications. The course will run from 9 January 2027 to 17 April 2027 for a duration of 14 weeks. Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 6–8 hours per week to the course.
