Even before 2022, cybersecurity faced an exponentially growing threat landscape, driven by attacks from nation-states, cybercriminals, hacktivists, and script kiddies. The emergence of Generative AI has amplified both the challenges and opportunities, introducing advanced tools for attackers and defenders alike. As the world rapidly transitions to digital, cybersecurity has evolved from being an IT concern to a critical corporate priority. This talk will delve into the multifaceted challenges posed by Generative AI and the opportunities it presents to strengthen cyber resilience. It will also address the critical knowledge gaps that exist between industry cybersecurity teams, cyber product developers, and academia. By exploring strategies for effective collaboration, we can bridge these gaps and develop innovative approaches to combat the evolving threat landscape.
Speaker Biography
Shirish Puranik is an experienced engineering leader with over 25+ years in technology and 12+ years in cybersecurity, at technology companies delivering cybersecurity products and also as a practitioner operating cybersecurity at scale in large financial institutions.
He has held executive roles at industry leaders like Wells Fargo, Visa, and Oracle. At Wells Fargo, he served as EVP of Cybersecurity IAM, driving large-scale cybersecurity initiatives.
At Visa, he was SVP of IAM and M&A, responsible for securing systems supporting billions of transactions annually, and also served as CISO for Visa Europe. At Oracle, he led the development of industry-leading IAM products and cloud services. Earlier in his career, Shirish held leadership roles at two successful tech startups. Shirish holds a master’s in engineering management from Stanford University, a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, and a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, traveling, music and cheering for the Golden State Warriors with his family.
